DALLAS, Jun 25, 2004/ FW/ --- The highly anticipated debut of Isabela Capeto at Sao Paulo Fashion Week did not disappoint, as the Rio de Janiero-based designer sent African and Latin American inspired ensembles on the runway.
Capeto, who trained at the Accademia di Fashion in Florence, Italy, was influenced by the photos of Malick Sidibé, an African photographer, of his country’s youth during the mid-1960s.
Retro in spirit, Isabela Capeto’s Spring 2005 collection is full of warmth and color. Using prints and embroidery to capture the essence of mid-1960s Africa, the designer chose flowing skirts, wide-legged pants, and short-cropped jackets to represent her muse.
Not forgetting her home continent, she also sent tunics in Mexican style and Spanish boleros plus the now ubiquitous ruffles that was the main trend last Fall 2004 on the international runways.
This collection established Isabela Capeto as one of the names to watch in the increasingly popular Sao Paulo Fashion Week.
