PARIS, Jan 30, 2005/ FW/ --- In a space designed to be a triangle and on a steel runway reminiscent of a factory area, Kim Jones deconstructed and reconstructed the industrial worker’s uniforms and work clothes and came up with a very masculine collection that young men in their 20s and 30s will appreciate.
From cargo pants to carpenters trousers, from jogging suits to mechanics coveralls, the British designer looked into the workingman’s wardrobe and turned them to street wear while adding elements of his own.
The sleeves of the coverall was eliminated and turned into a comfortable jumpsuit and matched with a knitted sweater to complete the look.
Carpenter pants were styled with suspenders and the electrician’s uniform became a pair of denim pants cinched at the waist held by the ‘electrician’s belt made of strips of leather.
Functional and very comfortable, the collection is geared towards the youth who wants to
look polished amidst all the hip-hop clothes around him.
And with the double-breasted cable cardigans, plus the oversized longshoreman’s peacoat, Kim Jones’ young men will surely stand out in the crowd.
Not forgetting the ‘formal’ look, Kim Jones also sent on the runway his interpretation of the suit jacket. Cropped short at the waist with slanted pockets, the two-button jacket look hip and anti-establishment but will definitely get accepted inside the Opera House.
