Kim Jones Menswear Fall 2006: Sportive, Experimental & Full of Surprises

PARIS, Jan 29, 2006/ FW/ --- With the usual high-powered editors sitting front row generously peppered with Japanese journalists and retail buyers, it was easy to see that British designer Kim Jones is doing more than fairly well.

Maybe, its because he’s take on men’s fashion is out of the ordinary. Or perhaps, its simply because he is a good tailor and though his creations might look experimental at first glance, traditional masterful tailoring takes over when you look closer.

Take his latest collection previewed today at La Maison Rouge for example. Entitled ‘Pop Around The Clock,’ it is full of ultra-modern silhouettes based on the classic wardrobe of a city gentleman.

Opening with a white on white piping detail shirt paired with Czech pants, it’s a sportive interpretation of the classic tuxedo shirt, which be worn alone or with a tuxedo of course.

Outdoor jackets were decorated with straps made of the same material, sewn together to mimic a paratrooper’s parachute straps, trousers were paneled for ease of dressing and comfort while sweaters were oversized for layering.

One interesting look is the down-filled bomber jacket that came with its own necktie, made from the same material. It’s formal and sportive at the same time.

Though the title ‘Pop Around the Clock’ implied dressing from sunrise to sundown, Kim Jones did more than that by creating a wardrobe that would take the lads from the city to the country without losing their modernity and urbanity.

Interesting to note is that though Kim Jones is British by birth, he did not go for the British look that has been the main influence this season. Rather, he went for the ‘citizen of the world’ and his nod to British influence is giving them precise English tailoring.
