Les Hommes MILAN, Jan 19, 2006/ FW/ --- The underworld is another theme that designers in Milan explored. The stage set for Les Hommes was a cemetery; eerily beautiful, almost competing with the British inspired collection they showed during the second day of the Milan menswear season.

Prince of Wales checks and tartans were used in dress pants, suits and jackets. The cut was loose fitting, including the pageboy trousers that were held by suspenders.

There were several takes on the tuxedo jacket, from the short-cropped, just ending right on the hipline to coattails that was actually made into a vest and worn under a suit jacket.

The tuxedo shirt was not sacred either, as Les Hommes recreated them with one-sided ruffles, bow ties with long tails, and with a bib in place of the bow tie.

Chimneystack hats were the accessory of choice, plus floral tattoos on the model’s face. And though this is supposed to be a cemetery jaunt, the models did not wear Goth make-up nor it was suggested that they are lost souls.

It was like a midnight visit to the garden of good & evil, where English gentlemen met with their more rakish counterparts – the English rock stars who preferred leather pants and purple coattails.
