DALLAS, Apr 17, 2007 / FW/ --- Founded in 2004 by Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, Marchesa took the fashion world by storm with their ‘living work of art’ philosophy.
Inspired by the life of Marchesa Luisa Casati, a Belle Époque aristocrat renowned for her flamboyant tastes, the Marchesa label has the lavishness and bigger than life attitude of the late Marchesa Casati.
Though the label was one of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2006, it has its supporters and detractors, much like its muse and inspiration Marchesa Casati who during her lifetime had sparked controversy and admiration at the same time.
Already a favorite of the Hollywood crowd, Marchesa is also finding its way to the wardrobes of high rolling fashionistas. In 2006, the company generated a wholesale volume of $3.5 million and sold at stores like Neiman Marcus, Harrods and Selfridges in London, Holt Renfrew in Canada and Joyce in Hong Kong.
Known for its signature eveningwear that incorporates couture details, the look is feminine with a touch of fantasy.
