MILAN, Feb 18, 2007/ FW/ --- White snow covered the floor, a leafless tree sat in the middle, a fire was burning low near a white tent… Maria Calderara set a dramatic stage for a highly conceptual and poetic show, wherein the clothes are surprisingly easy-to-wear.
Polished and refined, the collection which is entitled ‘La Musica Del Bianco’ has deconstruction elements with the use of inverted seams and definitive reconstructive aspects such as the use of antique fabrics like the wool that was once used for nun’s wimples that was washed and transformed into an A-line skirt with origami folds.
Poetic and bordering on intellectual, the show began with a mother wearing a black coat with a shawl neckline watching her daughter play in the snow with a pram. What followed was a tableau of girls passing by – a ballerina wearing a silk jersey mini dress with asymmetrical hemline dances on the snow, after which a tennis player wearing an all black ensemble of lingerie inspired skirt and blouse hits an imaginary tennis ball.
A girl on a white bike drives by wearing a beige mid-calf frock; her jewelry of semi-precious stones was an integral part of the dress and not just an embellishment. A violinist wearing black wide legged trousers and a long-sleeved gray tee plucks dreamy music while a girl on a sleeveless beige shift writes on the snow.
Minis that are pleated in front can be worn as a dress or a blouse, depending on the girl’s mood. Maria Calderara abandoned conventions, as the pieces were assembled in private, personal and intimate sense. The designer allowed the wearer a lot of leeway, giving the girl or woman the ability to choose her own style.
And for those who has developed a distaste for intellectual clothes, Maria Calderara has given them a good reason to try it one more time with the assurance that this time around, they would surely enjoy it!
