SYDNEY, May 7, 2005/ FW/ --- With a medieval stone bridge serving as background, Marnie Skillings set the tone for her modernly romantic collection shown last Wednesday at Mercedes Australian Fashion Week.
Known for her dreamy verging on mysterious creations, the Sydney-based designer chose pastels as her main color palette. Mixing solids, tiny prints and stripes, she took a contemporary approach to the romantic trend that prevailed during the Fall 2006 season on the international fashion circuit.
Sticking to a slim silhouette, Skillings added ruffles, lace and ribbons to her smocked and sheered creations, resulting to an ethereal effect overall.
Sexy without being overt, formal without being conservative, the designer’s skills in draping and in tailoring have grown since last Spring 2005 season.
And if she continues this path, Skillings might find herself expanding outside Australia and New Zealand where her collection is already being sold at select outlets.
Of course, that will be the logical course of action for the Swarovski Evening Wear Award and the Dylon Dye Award several years back! Skillings has the talent and the world is ready to recognize it.
