PARIS, Jul 2, 2004/ FW/ --- Milan may be considered the well-established king of men’s fashion, but Paris must be considered the city that innovates.
Bulgarian designer Petar Petrov (photo at left) presented a small and innovative collection for men that show his potential to one day rival with the big guns of the industry.
His white suit immediately caught my discriminating eye. I, a true lover of well-constructed men’s suits, was unprepared for what was to come.
The pants of his grey suit are done in jersey. This is perfect for younger men or men who are young-at-heart and wishing to escape the strictness of what is often found in their father’s closet.
Petrov’s yellow hooded shirt and matching short demonstrate the young designer’s ability to work well with modern themes and trends, while combining them with classic elements. His work on collars is interesting as they offer a bit of diversity for those looking for a change.
Now, I must admit that his black sleeveless suit is my favourite piece in the entire collection. It may not revolutionize office attire at this time, but it may be an indicator of things to come with global climate changes. If not, he can always count on the very fashionable to do their part in making it acceptable in the work place.
The only drawback of the collection (if you will permit) is his choice of silver shoes. They certainly may be a hit with the young, fashion-forward crowd, but for this collection, they really did nothing other than provide a distraction from the importance of his work.
With that said and done, the Paris men’s fashion week is looking stronger and stronger in great part to the talented and skilled new generation of menswear designers such as the talented Mister Petrov.
