MILAN, Sep 23, 2007/ FW/ --- Opening the elegant cream folders that sat on the chairs of Francesco Scognamiglio’s fashion show, the first page is all but blank. ‘This Show is Dedicated to My Mother’, is written in the middle almost like a poem promising the sweetness to come. With love as intense as you would feel towards a loving mother, Francesco Scognamiglio poured out his heart and soul for his Spring Summer 2008 fashion show.
Pieces were beautiful, elegant and stunning at the same time. The line between art and fashion was so thin that the show could almost be called avant-garde. Inspired by classic tradition the pieces integrated minimalist lines with aristo-chic designs. In classic tones from pearls and whites to blacks and grays the collection was all about structure.
Inspired by “Old English” elegance, lines were high and seduction came in the form of well-tailored cuts and rich fabrics. Pieces were traditional with new twists like swarovski covered pointed shoulders and scales of accordion pleats. Thin black veils were taken from traditional to modern when pulled tightly against the face. Shoes came in the form of wide ankle boots with button details and prominent gold heels.
Volume played an important role exaggerating classic ruffles, gathers and bows to create light space. To get rid of harsh “Old English” stereotypes Francesco found the right blend of luxury fabrics that helped soften the classic ridged look. From organza’s to silks materials helped create the illusion of two time periods.
Set in a high ceiling room older then anyone in it, with calming tranquil music there was a sensation of beauty and appreciation. With the right blend of tradition and innovation Francesco Scognamiglio helped create the mirage that time stood still.
