Sportmax Fall 2007: Powwow on the Runway

MILAN, Feb 23, 2007/ FW/ --- Pilgrims and Indians before the time of cowboys and Indians, actually got along. In fact, it is the Indians who taught the pilgrims how to harvest and survive, thus we celebrate the holiday Thanksgiving. Sportsmax looked to the Autumn and Winter seasons as inspiration to celebrate not Thanksgiving but the people who started it.

Pilgrim style dresses with high, detailed necklines were embellished with feathers and beads. The style was neither pilgrim or Indian but more a blend of the too. Other influences were also in effect such as menswear inspirations from Dandyism. The collection for Sportsmax was more grown up and sophisticated, but was still young and fun.

The neckline was emphasized a lot in accessories and details. Big bows, chunky scarves and embellishments could be found in almost every outfit. The colors were much like the colors seen around Thanksgiving, deep oranges, browns and blacks. Touches of pink were used to spike the look up and modernize the clothing.

Prairie style dresses with high necklines and empire waists, were repeated in different colors and styles. Skirts were long and flowy or short with volume. Feather embellishments outlined jeweled breastplates and beaded necklines while fringes accessorized coats and skirts.

Dandy influence was seen in the tailored vests, 3-piece suits and tweed ensembles. The importance of appearance that defined a Dandy was another influence or shared quality trait with the Sportmax Woman. Fabrics tended to take on all inspiration ranging from thick corduroy to magnified folk printed silk.

The look was bold like that of the survivors the Indians helped the pilgrims be. The Sportsmax woman this season are now ready to take in the footsteps of the pilgrims and voyage to lands far away. But if the lands are to far she’ll just have to take the trip in her mind and let her clothes work their magic in the city.
