NEW YORK, Sep 13, 2006/ FW/ --- With a definitive reference to the 1970s, Alexander Terekhov, designing under the label Terexov revisited the heyday of Diana Ross and when ‘Mahogany’ was a hit.
Proposing 30 looks that are mainly knee-length and floor length wrap dresses, Terexov went for fluid and soft looks using silk jersey and chiffon.
Opting for a very neutral color palette of white, black and different washes of gray, the Russian born designer added gold and red, as well as some prints to jazz things up.
Giving a nod to sensuality, the cuts were low in the front and back. And as his homage to the 1970s continued, halter necks and of-the-shoulder styling were also used. Ruffles, twists and self-tying sashes were the main embellishments in this collection.
A graduate of the Institute of Fashion and Design in Moscow, Alexander Terekhov won an award to train under Yves Saint Laurent in Paris. This explains his mastery of draping.
And though he is a new face in the New York fashion scene (showing at the UPS Hub is his first ever trip to the U.S.), Terekhov’s Terexov had been featured in the Russian editions of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour.
For his debut under the tents in Bryant Park, Terekhov chose to dress up women from mid-twenties to 50s, with his only guiding design principle, ‘I only want women to look beautiful.’
