Y-3 by Yohji Yamamoto NEW YORK, Feb 14, 2006/ FW/ --- Before the Spring 2003 fashion season, Yohji Yamamoto collaborated with Adidas in creating some highly covetable trainers that were of course shown on the Paris runways for the Japanese designer’s sportive line Y.

The response to the new look for Adidas trainers was so tremendous that it spawned into a full wardrobe of choice debuting on the Paris runways during October 2002 under the label Y-3.

For its first ever collection, the basics were the main fare, but Yamamoto dragged sports clothes out of a logo-fest to produce pieces as subtle as a black zip front with the Adidas three stripes as a diagonal arm detail or as full length hooded dresses, T-shirts and pants covered with extra large rose, daisy and dahlia print.

The Spring 2003 catwalk show received rave reviews from the press, while the best compliment it was given was flying off the store shelves when it hit retail outlets.

The brand continued to show in Paris until the Fall 2005 season. In September 2005, during the New York Spring 2006 season, Yamamoto and Adidas decided to bring the show to the U.S., debuting at the Big Apple in what is probably the best produced show of the season.
