NEW YORK, June 10, 2001/ FW/ --- For forty years, London-based Adel Rootstein has been crafting figures for store displays
that are a cut above the competition.
It all started in the 1960s, with the first range of mannequins based on the personalities of
the day such as Jill Kennington, Maggie London and Jenny Hocking, which were light years ahead
of the papier mache and plaster models which were stilted and stylized - in short, very old hat.
From the 1960s to 1990s, Twiggy, Sandie Shaw, Joanna Lumley, Janet Suzman, Joan Collins,
Lord Patrick Lichfield, Marie Helvin, Dianne Brill, Yasmin Le Bon, Susanne Barcht, Ute Lemper,
Karen Mulder and Jodie Kidd have turned fantasy into living legends, as the mannequins
created in their image graced window displays all over the world.
With a great attention to detail and an eye on current fashion trends, these mannequins
are practically living dolls.
For Fall 2002, Creative Director for Rootstein Kevin Arpino chose Erin O'Connor
and Anne Vyitsyna as the "models" for the new Adel Rootstein mannequins.
Entitled, "The ERIN & ANNE Collection," the 2002 series mannequins were presented to the media
and retail industry via a gallery show which was more entertaining than some live fashion shows.
With the "Erin" and "Anne" mannequins as the stars of the show, the vibe of the line was
very glam, decadent and sexy.
Mucy of this has to do with the outfits the fiberglass figures were wearing.
Kevin Arpino, Creative Director for Adel Rootstein also designed the garments, which were
complete with maribou feathers, sequins, and lace trimmings, which made the gallery feel
more like an MTV Awards after-party than an industry show.
And with avant-garde hair and make-up to match, these "girls and boys" looked more than ready
to rock.
Rootstein which is known for capturing the elegance and beauty of the model, chose Erin O'Connor
for her dramatic, casual sophisticate and gamine elegance.
Mannequin sculptor David Downtown saw her in a Jean Paul Gaultier show and he knew she
is going to be the next "mannequin."
Anne Vyalitsyna who at age 14 won the 2001 model search competition MTV "Fashion Loud" was
chosen for her youthful elegance.
