Generation Series - Men

It’s been really interesting to see the new translucent trend permeate the whole mannequin market this past season. It was great to see see what we’ve been pushing for ages finally turn up at all the show stands” referring to his ‘Obscura’ forms that have done so well.

I think we were leaders of the trend and that’s why we got a good response to all the clear material forms. This past year, Life Style Forms in trend-setting fashion, have taken the translucent one step beyond. We added a little color to the translucency showing blue forms in Chicago and the mannequins on show in December had a gold tint to them.

For 2001, Lifestyle is doing a kind of retro feel set of mannequins like those in flesh tones that were popular in the 60’s and 70’s. My inspiration was the Diesel store window. The revived trend of 70’s fashion was a pure case of the fashions influencing mannequins. It ran a full circle!

Trend-wise our faux crocodile and alligator forms were well received. But perhaps most exciting, was our new product which continues through this year – the series 2001 modular metal merchandizing system, based on the puck system. Our version had a million possibilities. It was a hit with Macys East who used it for anything from full forms to hats and scarves to displaying whole co-ordinated looks.

Mannequins are continuing on an uptrend. The minimal display thing is still out. Stores like The Gap are realizing that you can have theatre without being obtrusive and stores look exciting once again.

Part of the new theatrical display trend is mannequins with more personality --and this involves mannequins with heads. In particular, retailers like Levi’s, Bennetton, and Tommy Hilfiger see that the youth market is huge and reflects multinational ethnicity. Only mannequins with heads can portray that show of multi-enthicity.” --- Richard Rollison (Lifestyle Forms & Display)
