Aug 4, 1997 / FW/ --- As one article in this site said, Times Do Change, So Do
mannequins, the mannequins reflect the "era" when they were manufactured.
A look at mannequin history would show that the mannequin did not only reflect the
ideal beauty of that time, but also reflected the existing socio-economic condition
of that era.
The 1980s was a time of self-indulgence and luxury.

Wearing a designer label was the status symbol.
It was also a time when women, post-Susan B. Anthony and the Women's Liberation
Movement of the early 1960s and the 1970s found that there was a glass ceiling for
their achievements.
Hence, the female mannequin poses show the body attitudes of the 1980s women - open
yet defiant, leaning yet pushing ahead, vibrant yet self-protective.
Decter's Star Quality Series of Mannequins during the 1980s was very popular.
The body attitude of the mannequins show the self-indulgence of the times, yet show
the gathering strenght of the women, almost a prediction for the 1990s where women
will partake in bigger roles in the society.
The 1980s female mannequins which were manufactured to wear high heels have their
feet sculpted at an extreme angle to reflect the everyday high heels shoes of the 1980s.
Editor's Note: All mannequins pictured here are no longer manufactured. They were
"retired" in the early 1990s.
