PARIS, Jul 9, 2006/ FW/ --- Showing more of a retrospective instead of a new collection, Pierre Cardin held an installation during the Paris Menswear Spring 2007 season using mannequins to present the fashion innovations that he had done through his career.
And while the clothes are just amazing, seeing how the French designer has affected fashion since he began his career, the styling and choice of mannequins is also an important aspect of the presentation.
Using both stylized and realistic mannequins as a group or mixed together, the mannequins were not just glamorized clothes hangers. Rather, they added to the total effect of modernity and contemporary atmosphere of the whole place.
It has to be said that the location of the installation was also well thought of. Attendees enter via a room that is almost empty. Shelves display a book, a magazine, a factice of Pierre Cardin perfume were its only contents. Painted all white, it was stark, almost clinically clean.
Then, you are led to the first room that houses the beginning of the installation. In fact, one has to go through a series of rooms to see the whole presentation, each room having a theme and showed the development of the brand, while also presenting Pierre Cardin’s distinctive style for each period.
The mannequins were carefully styled and treated as if they were live models who would be on a catwalk. That’s the reason why the mannequins stood out. They might not be in a store window, but they should be!
