DALLAS & MILAN, Jul 18, 2005/ FW/ --- Two weeks after a successful runway show during Milan Menswear Show, Gianfranco Ferré was back on the runway, this time for London’s Victoria & Albert Museum’s ‘Fashion In Motion.’
Started in May 1999, ‘Fashion in Motion’ is a monthly catwalk event at the V&A wherein models pose against works of art and sculpture that inspired or set off the moving works of art.
From the first show by milliner Philip Treacy up to today, ‘Fashion in Motion’ makes the inaccessible world of designer couture accessible to a wider audience.
Last Wednesday, July 13th, Gianfranco Ferré presented sixty of his designs from the past as well as from the Autumn / Winter 2005 – 2006 collection, forming a rich and fascinating mosaic of influences and references from all corners of the world.
Covering five continents and describing actual and imaginary journeys through familiar, well-traveled horizons either in reality and/or fantasy, Gianfranco Ferré explored the cultures and eras of the past and the present of the most enchanting landscapes, capturing its elegance, femininity and glamour.
In the museum’s Raphael Gallery the internationally celebrated Italian fashion designer presented in four identical shows, showing three scores of his famous silhouettes that included his trademark reinvention of the white shirt.
Nicknamed the ‘Frank Lloyd Wright’ of fashion due to his innovative approach in structures of clothing, Gianfranco Ferré took the fashion world by storm in 1974 when he designed his first collection.
Four years later (1978), he launched his eponymous company and after a decade (1989) he was appointed artistic director for Christian Dior. He stayed there until 1996, designing both haute couture and prêt-à-porter.
After leaving the venerable Paris fashion house, Gianfranco Ferré returned to working exclusively for his own company wherein he expanded from the original label to today’s 9 clothing lines and 12 accessories line, wherein he designs 18 collections a year.
A winner several times over the prestigious 'L'Occhio d'Oro' - the Italian fashion Oscar, Gianfranco Ferré is one of the most influential designers of our times.
