LOS ANGELES, Mar 25, 2006/ FW/ --- When the fashion god declared that fall and winter collections should be made up of heavy clothes, Charlotte Tarantola did not get the memo. So, she continued to make her light and airy, dreamy and wistful pieces that are simply irresistible.
Now, before you say, ‘but this is fall, I need to be warm,’ please hold that thought. With technological advances in fabrics, one does not need a thick woolen sweater to keep warm. The fabrics might be lightweight but they still keep the elements at bay while still allowing your skin to breath.
So, although cooler weather is expected during fall and winter, Charlotte Tarantola stayed true to her signature style of ‘flirty & feminine’ in her knit tops and cardigans, camisoles and sheered skirts.
Take the crocheted lace cardigan for example. Paired with a camisole and skirt, created in the pastel colors of fall, it’s a delicate contrast to the rich warm tones of the season.
‘I like to keep things wispy. It’s part of the charm of the collection. And since layering is a must during fall, the total look is not bulky even when using several layers of clothes,’ Charlotte Tarantola told FW in an interview at her booth at the Design Suite.
The Charlotte Tarantola label has been around for 9 years, and this is the second season that it is exhibiting at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios Design Suite. Sold at Nordstrom, Macy’s and NeimanMarcus.com, it has been a favorite of women who want to get noticed without being overt.
With a design philosophy ‘ each piece begins as a canvas and is an occasion to create art,’ Charlotte Tarantola’s unique aesthetics resulted to timeless classic looks being translated into novel & feminine silhouettes that are fresh yet familiar.
Originally from Oregon, Charlotte Tarantola studied at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology where she graduated with honors in 1989. After graduation, she went back to the Pacific Coast, this time choosing the warm weather of Southern California and finally settling in Los Angeles wherein through various design opportunities, she honed her craft.
It was Fred Segal that gave the then emerging designer a break. With an innovative graphic tees inspired by vintage postcards, Fred Segal decided to carry the line in its store.
From the original tees, the label has expanded to include cardigans, sweaters, skirts and accessories including scarves, hats and gloves.
