DALLAS, May 10, 2007 / FW --- With names like Scorpion, Slash and Troop F for its Fall 2007 accessories collection, KM*Rii reiterates its fashion underground beginnings while continuing to be the new ‘alternative’ fashion choice.
Founded by Japanese designers Lui Onozaki and Teruki Uchise in 1999, and establishing their atelier inside a Native American teepee in Bali, Indonesia, KM*Rii’s unconventional foray into fashion provided the label a cult following from the very start.
And as KM*Rii became more popular and sold at selected retail stores worldwide, that eccentricity caught the eye of the mainstream fashion crowd.
Case in point, for Fall 2007, Lui Onozaki created a purse in the shape of a hand grenade complete with grommets, a pin and the handle. Colloquially called a ‘pineapple’ by soldiers, this ‘pineapple’ purse will be a collectible the moment it hits store shelves.
But, that is only one of the many of Lui Onozaki’s eye-catching creations for Fall 2007. Onozaki, who has taken the creative helm of KM*Rii alone since 2006, (Teruki Uchise decided to create his own collection), also envisioned the ‘Scorpion’ tote, named that way because of the straps that hang like the scorpion’s tail.
With zips, grommets and straps, the military references could easily be seen also. The same holds true for the Troop F messenger bag that is also equipped with extra pockets outside.
The KM * RII collection is sold around the world in a selected retail stores :
