MILAN, Dec 7, 2008 / FW/ — Just in time for holiday shopping, Versace has opened their first boutique in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam.  The store follows the newest stylistic guidelines for the most important Versace Boutiques worldwide.  The importance of clean, modern and elegant design is accentuated by the focus on the color white, with white matt ceilings and white lacquered walls.  Black granite marble floors add a bit of contrast as do the lacqured black and white wood furniture.  Lights play an important role in creating mood for the store as they work as a decorative effect throughout the store and as a centerpiece in the form of a 9meter chandelier.
The Versace Group said: “We are looking to create an environment where the architecture of the store supports the presentation of our collections in a way which is modern, refined and accessible to our customers. Following the previously announced investment plan of 45million euro to open 11 new Asian boutiques, this boutique in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam reconfirms the  Versace Group’s strong expansion plan in the Greater Asian market, now placing it second in importance after Europe.”
The store will carry the new season’s Versace women’s ready to wear collections, Versace eyewear, Versace fragrance and both men’s and women’s accessories featuring the complete range of bags, shoes, and belts.   The  one floor space covers 200 square meters and was inaugurated December 6th 2008.  Special guests included Ms. Vietnam 2008 and the Italian Ambassador to Thailand.  With the importance of the Greater Asian market, the Ho Chi Minh City store is a big step for the Versace Group.

Araks YeramyanDALLAS, Aug 28, 2008 / FW/ — Jockey uniforms and the dress of historical Jamestown inspired Araks Yeramyan for Spring 2009. Deep saturated shades of plum and black mingle together with pops of hot pink, teal, lemon, and light gray.

If it sounds incongruent to you, it’s not surprising. Araks has a penchant for mixing dissimilar elements and characteristics to create memorable pieces.

Take her famous lingerie line. Very feminine aesthetics on luxe innerwear, Araks has incorporated durability in the mix. Durable is an adjective not usually associated with the word luxury. Yet, Araks makes it work!

Perhaps its because to Araks, fashion is about allowing people to express their identity, wherein clothes are a mere extension of a woman’s character and personality.

Catching up with Araks Yeramyan before fashion week, the New York-based designer discussed more of her design philosophy with FashionWindows.

What is fashion for?

Fashion allows people to express their identity

If you were not a fashion designer, what would you be?

An anthropologist

If you were allowed to design ONLY ONE item of clothing and/or accessory, which would it be?

panties

If the fashion gods told you to banish ONE item of clothing and/or accessory forever, which would it be?

crocs

When someone says Aphrodite or Ares, everyone knows they are referring to the Goddess of Love and the God of War, respectively. If you were going to give the fashion god a name, what would it be? Will the fashion god be male or female or neither?

Tia Cibani on the runwayDALLAS, Aug 27, 2008 / FW/ — For Spring 2009, Tia Cibani returns to Port 1961’s Canadian roots as she takes inspiration from the works of Canadian artist Emily Carr.

Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Emily Carr (1871 – 1945), was one of the first artists to attempt to capture the spirit of Canada in modern style. Carr’s work specializes in her awareness of Canadian native culture through a number of works representing the British Columbian rainforest as well as expressionist paintings, totem poles and other artifacts stemming from the culture of the Native people of the Pacific North West.

Carr’s main themes in her mature work were natives and nature: “native totem poles set in deep forest locations or sites of abandoned native villages” and, later, “the large rhythms of Western forests, driftwood-tossed beaches and expansive skies”.

So, what can we expect from Tia Cibani for Spring 2009? A blend of painterly skill and vision with high fashion.

Tracy ReeseDALLAS, Aug 25, 2008 / FW/ — Was it only five years ago when as a fledgling fashion journo I came across some Tracy Reese’s pieces and I just fell in love with them. Ten seasons had passed then and Tracy Reese continues to enthrall without fail.

Perhaps its because Tracy Reese herself never stops. Through the years, her collections has taken the natural path of progression, thanks to the designer’s quest for that perfect look.

For Spring 2009, Tracy Reese is continues on that path with a proposal of delicate yet sophisticated pieces that emanate modern romance.

Pastel prints inspired by Japanese art feature chrysanthemums and hazy blue skies while structured leather is softened with touches of leaf appliqué. Relaxed and draped silhouettes feature hues of a sumptuous green garden that are intensified with Van Gogh inspired prints of the same palette.

Summer comes full circle with architectural shapes and defined prints of sleek stripes and laser cut lace.
