Angelina JolieNEW YORK, Dec 21, 2007 / FW/ — As citizens of the world, Angelina Jolie and her husband Brad Pitt maintain homes across the globe, but this holiday season, they are home to help 46,000 to 64,000 children that were displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

The Academy-Award winning actress is teaming up with The Children’s Health Fund (CHF) to ensure that these children who are exhibiting risk factors for health, mental health and school performance problems will receive the help that they need.

According to an announcement by CHF, a set of prescriptions that include solutions for appropriate housing relocation options, better access to schools and to comprehensive medical and mental healthcare will be implemented soon.

The CHF initiative was triggered by a study that found that more than half of the displaced children in Louisiana (55.4%) and nearly half in Mississippi (47.1%) have been estimated to show one of three “risk factors” that can have a long term or permanent impact on their lives: a substantial drop in academic achievement, according to their parents; lost access to health care (either medical home or insurance coverage); or clinically-diagnosed depression, anxiety or behavior disorder.

Kim CattrallLOS ANGELES, Dec 18, 2007 / FW/ — Dog and cat owners dote on their pets, and Kim Cattrall is not an exception. The Sex & the City star was seen in Los Angeles shopping with her beloved pooch carrying a Nancy Gonzalez handbag while her dog was wearing a one-of-a-kind matching Nancy Gonzalez collar and leash made especially for the puppy.

Actually, Kim Cattrall is not alone when it comes to doting on her pet. In fact, according to MarketResearch.com, the U.S. pet food market alone is valued at over $10 billion and it continues to grow, fueled by value-added products.

In terms of designer clothes and accessories for dogs, there are no figures yet how big that industry is. But a search on Google resulted to 190,000 hits for designer clothes for dogs, a good sign that there are lots of retailers out there carrying merchandise for man’s best friend.

Nancy Gonzalez as a fashion designer is not alone in catering to our furry friends. Even the venerable French fashion house Hermes made a ‘dog collar’ for real dogs, with the item retailing in 4 figures, like most of Hermes merchandise.

As a dog owner myself, let me say. hooray for Kim Cattrall for taking her dog along and including her pet in her busy schedule. She is currently filming the much-awaited movie ‘Sex & The City.’ That’s the reason why she was in Los Angeles.

Oh, if you’re interested in what Kim Cattrall and her dog were wearing, the Nancy Gonzalez exotic skins handbag and accessory collection is available at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and at fine specialty stores worldwide.
