NEW YORK, Feb 2, 2008 / FW/ — Borrowing from the social networking word gravatar (short for globally recognized avatar), Duckie Brown might as well have coined ‘GRAMATAR’ or globally recognized male avatar because the Euro-American aesthetics of their Fall 2008 collection can be worn by a young gent anywhere in the world.
Using another techno buzzword, ‘global village’ a phrase usually used on a socio-political-geographical aspect, Steven Cox and Daniel Silver redefined ‘global village’ in terms of fashion, i.e., guys from Europe, the Americas and Australia can easily don these outfits and blend in.
Perhaps, Menswear 2.0 is not just about the silhouette or even going green. Maybe, the new look for the 21st century is an amalgamation of everything around us – from high-tech to organic, from being a locavore to exclaiming w00t when surprised.
Duckie Brown’s black & white collection with splashes of silver is almost stark, but not grim. It’s minimalistic to a certain degree, yet it has the softness of rounded shoulders on suit and generously cut coats. It has the modernity of sheen on the fabric, yet has historical references with the Byzantine-inspired art on the pullover. There is the respectability of the tuxedo pants and the rebelliousness of the extra length on the hem to give the trousers a little crinkle.
Maybe, Duckie Brown is not out to change the world, but it sure wants us to come together as one.
