NEW YORK, Feb 3, 2008 / FW/ — When David Chu founded Nautica, he named it after the Latin word nauticus, which as the name suggests is everything and anything about the maritime world. And though David Chu had been gone from the company for several seasons now, the brand’s DNA lives on.
Reworked versions of the peacoat from the more formal jacket to the waterproofed version that one would wear on the deck of a yacht were proposed. The lifejacket was the inspiration for sleeves vests with continuous collars. Trapeze leather jackets and quilted blousons can be worn while at work or at play.
Always known for its bright colors, Nautica made a lot use of its signature yellow and blue colors. But the Nautica chap is not just about play. At work, he dons two-button jackets. At the clubs, he chooses tuxedo jackets with sheen.
With a predilection to casual, Nautica made the tie optional, but suggests wearing them with a three-piece suit.
This collection did not break any new ground. It just reinforced Nautica’s signature look.
