DALLAS, Aug 27, 2008 / FW/ — For Spring 2009, Tia Cibani returns to Port 1961’s Canadian roots as she takes inspiration from the works of Canadian artist Emily Carr.
Born in Victoria, British Columbia, Emily Carr (1871 – 1945), was one of the first artists to attempt to capture the spirit of Canada in modern style. Carr’s work specializes in her awareness of Canadian native culture through a number of works representing the British Columbian rainforest as well as expressionist paintings, totem poles and other artifacts stemming from the culture of the Native people of the Pacific North West.
Carr’s main themes in her mature work were natives and nature: “native totem poles set in deep forest locations or sites of abandoned native villages” and, later, “the large rhythms of Western forests, driftwood-tossed beaches and expansive skies”.
So, what can we expect from Tia Cibani for Spring 2009? A blend of painterly skill and vision with high fashion.
