NEW YORK, Feb 8, 2008 / FW/ — It was supposed to be the idea of ‘strange beauty’ but nothing was odd or outlandish about Y&Kei’s Fall 2008 collection. In fact, the aesthetics are so refined that the audience was clamoring for more when the show ended.
Sure, there was a juxtaposition of clothing elements like a button on the half Peter Pan collar on a red mini with a 6-inch peplum at the hemline. But, the Peter Pan collar is not really the collar! The dress actually sported a wide and loose turtleneck!
Husband & wife design team, Han-hee Yoon and Jin-young Kang also played with volume, creating bubble skirts that borders on being A-line, a ruche strapless tap with a skinny belt, thus creating a sheered effect from the waistline down.
A very interesting piece is the camouflage winter coat with fur trim. Who would have known that wearing camouflage is a sure way to be noticed, because that’s exactly what this jacket will do for the wearer.
Metallics and black & white prints, belts worn like thin sashes, apron vests to ward the cold and a shiny empire gown with fall foliage prints, there is a lot to choose from this collection, yet somehow it is not enough because truth be told, like most of the audience, I wanted to more.
