TibiNEW YORK, Feb 9, 2008 / FW/ — Paisley here, paisley there, and graphic prints everywhere, Tibi designer Amy Smilovic was captivated by the 1970s that she brought back the decade’s most iconic silhouettes and graphics.

Yet, instead of looking retro, the collection looked contemporary thanks to the use of shiny fabric and lacework embroidery. It also goes without saying that all the prints that were presented are all original prints by Smilovic, as that is her signature.

What is interesting in the execution is how Smilovic reworked the 1970s silhouettes to make them modern. It was cut a little more generously, while still keeping the slim shape. The empire waist was brought down about an inch, while the V-necklines became deeper.

Even the signature Courrèges jacket became double-breasted with 8 buttons and given sliding pockets. The caftan became a trapeze coat with kimono sleeves belted with the same fabric.
