NEW YORK, Feb 13, 2008 / FW/ — Tia Cibani designing under the label Ports 1961 was inspired by Scotland for Fall 2008 sending a very wearable collection on the runway. Entitled ‘Lassair’, the collection featured mostly daywear from dresses to pant suits with wooden jewelry and handbags as accessories.
Though not necessarily innovative, Cibani has some good ideas that translated well like the reworked green coat with wide lapel and hidden placket cinched at the waist with a wood colored belt.
But, when this idea was created to become a separate – an A-line skirt and sleeveless top with a peplum accessorized with a green hat, one was reminded of the Girl Scouts of America.
All were not lost though. There are a lot of pieces that women would love mainly due to ease of dressing like the white sleeveless tunic dress with a hemline that reached just above knee or the blue & black bustier dress for Ports 1961 more daring clientele.
Overall, it was a good and coherent collection though a bit of a disappointment because the audience was expecting more.
