MILAN, Feb 17, 2008 / FW/ — For Valeria Marini, fashion is only partly about shapes and silhouettes. Marini is convinced that women must be a seductress 24 hours a day – in the morning in the office, during the afternoon with girlfriends, in the evening with their man. And there is the right dress for every moment. All it takes is one little sexy detail, a strategic lace to draw the eye, a softness that bursts.
Inspired by one of Italy’s most famous daughters, Sophia Loren, who is known for her joie de vivre and sensuality, Valeria Marini focused on that unforgettable Loren’s striptease scene with Mastroianni in the movie ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.’
In fact, the theme of the collection was based on one item - the transparent lingerie worn by Sophia Loren, which according to the press notes, “represent a different way of interpreting femininity.”
So, Marini sent red mini cocktail dresses, with the waist emphasized and the shoulders bared. The lace shawl has two functions: first, the obvious and practical, i.e. for warmth, and second, for seduction as the woman plays peek-a-boo, i.e., to show more skin or to cover up.
It’s blatant sensuality with romantic allusions; somewhat ironic from a different perspective. Fabrics such as satin, chiffon, taffeta, embroideries and lace are intermixed with roses and petals prints. Sophisticated and not so innocent, the Valeria Marini woman understands that glamour and sexy can go hand-in-hand.
