MILAN, Feb 24, 2008 / FW/ — Belstaff always designs for the same woman, she changes with fashion but one thing that is always consistent is her inner strength and self confidence. This Fall Winter 08/09 collection took inspiration from a pioneer in women’s movements, Amelia Earhart. Not only is Amelia a great inspiration because she was the first woman to fly a plane across the Atlantic, but she also comes from a classic traditional time period that fits perfectly with the Belstaff style.
Focusing on male glamour in the first half on the 20th century while pinpointing in on the 1940’s, Belstaff pays a tribute to this elegant era. Jackets are based on masculine designs but are tweaked with feminine details. Cinched in waists, fabric covered buttons and designer zips are just some of the carefully thought out details that really make the collection work. While the clothes may be a tribute to male glamour, they lack not in female elegance.
When the cuts are very masculine fabrics are used to counterbalance the design. The looks are always balanced, like a monochromatic tan ensemble with shiny leather pants counter balancing a high-collard shirt covered with a masculine knit. Another masculine element is the high necklines or turtlenecks for both tops and jackets.
Colors are masculine and bold like black, gray, white and green. Accessories are minimal but still follow the masculine trend. The clean well thought out design details and the high quality performance fabrics are just a plus to the strong collection. While the Belstaff woman continues to be rebellious and courageous, so to do her designs.
