MILAN, Feb 27, 2008 / FW/ — If Gustav Klimt were to have an art show in the Basilica di San Marco you might get the feel of Roberta Scarpa’s Fall Winter 08/09 collection. The Venetian born designer went back to her roots and took inspirations from the Churches in her hometown. The floor of the Church of Santi Maria e Donata di Murani and the mosaic like work of Klimt are some of the artistic elements through out her collection.
Putting many little pieces together to make a whole that is beautiful just for that fact. Roberta skillfully blends fabrics and designs to create a unique whole. Light chiffon collars with full soft knits are further contrasted by shiny techno fabrics. The Soft curve of a neckline blend and contrast with the strong lines of a pencil skirt.
The key to the collection is the intermingling of fabric weight and textures. Prints play on this idea being obtuse in design and in texture. Burnt velour creates further dimension to prints with soft and hard illusions. Scarves are big and complimented with large fringe trimming while ankle boots and gloves come in a soft patent leather.
The woman is ultra feminine yet, still strong and capable. While loose pants and strong lines lean toward masculinity the light and soft tops with organic shapes masterfully soften up everything. The Roberta Scarpa woman this season is full out feminine but not afraid to pull out the whip if you think otherwise.
