NEW YORK, May 12, 2008 / FW/ — With Sex & The City holding its world premiere in London instead of here in New York where it is literally and figuratively based, checking out the DKNY Fall 2008 collection expected to hit stores late August or early September seem to be fitting with its modernized London’s mod look.

Empire waists and paisley prints are dead giveaways but throw in some metallic looks and soft leather in the mix plus some ostrich feathers on cocktail dresses and voila you have the quintessential metro girl painting the town red, both uptown and downtown.

For a long time, New York designers had to choose a ‘side’ – are they uptown designers or do they lean on downtown. That time is gone as both established designers like Donna Karan and emerging talents just mix things up. After all, Manhattan is now taken as a whole for fashion influence as Brooklyn rises as a fashion center, but that is for another discussion.
