PARIS, Apr 23, 2008 / FW / — Fresh from being curator of the Arles Photo Show, Christian Lacroix is moving immediately to his next project, designing the interior and façade of a 38-unit residential tower at the coastal area of Jumeirah, one of Dubai’s most exclusive beachside suburbs.

L-R: Marzooq Al-Rashdan, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Abyaar, Christian Lacroix, International designer and XCLX Managing Director and Mansour Al-Rashdan, Board Member & Business Development Director of Abyaar.

The project is going to be a joint venture between boutique Middle East property developer, Abyaar and Christian Lacroix, wherein the French couturier will design the façade, lobby and interiors of the condominium.

“We are working on something special that will tell a Middle Eastern story. The interiors will be based on paradox - contemporary and baroque, blending East and West, old and new, inspired by history and folklore,” commented the Paris-based Lacroix, giving a hint on what the tower’s future residents can expect.

Although Lacroix has worked on several Paris-based boutique hotel interiors, this is the first residential offering to which the designer’s trademark blend of past and future will make its mark. For the Dubai project, Lacroix will be sourcing and, in many cases, creating unique materials for the interior design.

Marzooq Al Rashdan, Vice Chairman and MD, Abyaar says, “We approached Lacroix because he is known for his exceptional design skills and theatrical style, both on and off the catwalk. This is the start of a long-term partnership that places Abyaar on the luxury development map internationally.

Among his non-catwalk pursuits, Lacroix has designed several hotels, interiors for the French chain of Gaumont cinemas; TGV trains to Strasbourg; tramway cars in Montpellier and the costumes for The Marriage of Figaro at the Aix-en-Provence festival, amongst other high profile productions.

Christian LacroixPARIS, Mar 28, 2008 / FW/ — Christian Lacroix’s Fall 2008 collection might have demonstrated a toned-down exuberance for Arles as the couturier used more solids and color blocks instead of the lively floral prints, but the Paris-based designer has not forgotten his birthplace.

This summer, Christian Lacroix is the curator of the annual Arles photo show, where approximately 55,000 visitors attend yearly. Slated from Jul 8 to Sep 14, 2008, the event is properly known as “Rencontres de Photographie d’Arles”.

For this year’s event, Christian Lacroix will not only be involved behind the scenes; he will also exhibit some of his own Polaroid photos that he shot himself. Unknown to many, shooting with Polaroids is also an art form, as many professional photographers have experimented with the medium and turned it as artistic as it could be.

The couturier, who turns 56 this year, is not showing any signs of slowing down. His Fall 2008 collection, unveiled last February here in Paris might be toned-down in terms of print while its high energy comes from the designer’s allusion to his haute couture identity.

His monochrome cocktail dresses, the ‘bouillonés’ and the “choux” that feature elaborate draping and folding of fabric to evoke three-dimensional flowers exemplify the Lacroix’s enthusiasm in creating highly desirable and highly covetable silhouettes.

Evian bottle by Christian LacroixNEW YORK, Jan 21, 2008 / FW/ — Evian, one of the very first companies to sponsor New York Fashion Week is back under the tents at Bryant Park with none other than Christian Lacroix. The French couturier designed a bottle especially for Evian as the first ever high-fashion Evian bottle, a new annual tradition introduced in 2007 by the company.

The Limited Edition Evian Bottle by Christian Lacroix will be distributed at Bryant Park to fashion week attendees. Already a favorite in the nation’s high-end restaurants, hotels and nightclubs, the bottle is reminiscent of a bride in white.

Adorned with a coppiced lace pattern, it provides the bottle with a classic frosted feel and is reminiscent of the flora that can be found at the French Alps.  The curved lines within the design give the bottle a soft, inviting feel that is sure to entice all water drinkers.

The annual Evian designer bottle signifies the brand’s dedication to chic sophistication, providing consumers with an epicurean experience. It is the perfect ‘welcome back’ gift to the fashion crowd who will attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York from Feb 1 – 8, 2008.

“We are thrilled to welcome Evian back to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this year,” said Fern Mallis, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion in a statement.

Evian graced Bryant Park in 1993, the first time New York Fashion Week was held under the auspices of 7th of Sixth. The bottled water from the mineral rich glacial sands in the pristine French Alps was the official bottled water under the tents at Bryant Park for a decade.

“Without the support of our sponsors Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week would have never grown to the level that it has within New York City and throughout the world,” Fern Mallis added in recognition of Evian’s continued support for fashion.

“Evian has historically been the natural choice of discerning consumers and celebrities around the globe and we are certainly eager to embrace our commitment to those consumers with our return to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week,” said Jeff Caswell, Vice President of Marketing for Evian North America.

“This is the industry’s pinnacle event and exactly where we want to be as we continue to integrate ourselves throughout the fashion community,” Caswell added.
