LONDON, Sep 20, 2006/ FW/ --- Basso & Brooke can add a stunning Spring/Summer 2007 collection to their list of recent accomplishments. They have been asked to exhibit selected works in the illustrious Dorchester Group hotels.

In addition, the finale piece of their Autumn/Winter 05/06 collection has been acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, an affirming treat for such a young design team. These reasons alone thoroughly explain why their show is such a hot ticket.

The show was held at the Shepherds Bush Empire, a theatre venue conducive to the duo’s concept of opulent travel during the Roaring 20’s, to avoid an overcapacity crowd.

Even though the venue was spacious enough to accommodate the throngs of press and fans, there still was an issue with the show starting over and hour and a half late. As the Chemical Brothers’ tune ‘It Began in Africa’ blared from the radio, the first model set the tone in an amazing sequined flapper dress complete with bodysuit and striped heels.

Every imaginable incarnation of luxurious travel to the lands of Africa and the South Pacific Asia was utilized. Animal prints and tribal motifs on body skimming jersey dresses with matching tights were appealing.

Long strands of chunky pearls and beads nicely complimented the low décolletage of sequined dresses with fringes of crystal Swarovski beads on the hem.

Basso & Brooke didn’t follow suit with the pannier craze of the last few seasons in London. However, they did create interesting proportions in asymmetrical-shoulder dresses, providing the roomy, exaggerated silhouette above the torso.

No recollection of the Charleston era would be complete without a Marcel bob. The models sported the hairstyle well with smoky eyes and full, pouty lips.

It is lovely to witness a talented design team hit their stride. Such a fabulous collection is well worth the wait.
