LOS ANGELES, Oct 19, 2005/ FW/ --- Debuting at Smashbox Studios this season, Chan Luu opted for an installation presenting 15 looks that are romantic, ultra femme and fluid.
Giving a nod to the neutral color palette trend that hit the international catwalks for Spring 2006, Chan Luu's dusty shades of oatmeal and beige featured embroidery, accordion pleats, sheering and layered ruffles making the looks very eclectic with the different washes of beige as the unifying theme.
Everything was lovely, and though the collection was very small, it was very beautiful and eye-catching.
A very tight and well-edited collection, Chan Luu’s understanding of what a catwalk show should be (although, technically this is an installation) is at par with what is seen in New York, Milan and Paris.
From the details of Swarovski crystals, to the hip-hugging belt, the styling and look is perfect.
It’s probably because Chan Luu started as a boutique owner before going into fashion design that she knows exactly how things should be styled.
A native of Vietnam, Chan Luu came to the U.S. to study at Boston University for a business degree. But fate had other things stored for her. Following her dream of being a fashion designer, she moved to Los Angeles wherein she enrolled at FiDM wherein she received a degree in Fashion Design in 1975.
Armed with a business degree and intimate knowledge of fashion, Chan Luu opened her first boutique in Rolling Hills Estates in 1982 carrying European designer clothing and accessories for women.
Though the business was literally a success both personally and financially, Chan Luu’s heart is in designing so in 1996 producing her first jewelry collection. In 2004, the label expanded to women’s ready-to-wear.
That same year, she opened her flagship store in Robertson Blvd. in downtown Los Angeles. The next year (2005), Chan Luu opened a showroom in New York.
Sold in major department stores such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman, Chan Luu’s popularity among the fashionista set continues to increase.
Yesterday, she debuted at Smashbox Studios to present her Spring 2006 collection during the Los Angeles fashion season.
