NEW YORK, Feb 2, 2007 / FW --- Here at FashionWindows, we have to confess that we are big fans of Duckie Brown. Designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver took our breath away since we first covered them in Fall 2005, and they continue to do so up to now.
Our editors and writers are fresh (though bleary-eyed) from attending the Milan and Paris menswear season, and once again, their verdict is the same – Duckie Brown belongs in Paris with Cox and Silver’s edgy silhouettes that are entirely their own!
Great choices of fabric and colors, mixing solids, checks and prints, Steven Cox and Daniel Silver cut the clothes slim but not constricting.
Suit jackets have rounded shoulders while the torso tapers slightly at the waist. Using only two buttons for both single and double-breasted, they varied the length from brief to natural. And that’s for the men. Now, let’s hear it for the boys.
Gray and red checks on a six-button double-breasted jacket with the shirt untucked and hanging loose… its establishment without being conservative, almost a sign of rebellion.
Of course, dressing men who are just out of their teens is actually one of the hardest stages of manhood to cover; yet, Duckie Brown did it with aplomb. The black leather jacket zipped at the front with a faux Nehru collar sums up the transition from boys to men as the jacket fits with driving a roadster to the more conventional sedan.
Still, the beauty of the collection is its universal appeal. Here in the U.S., the clothes will blend in the more formal Northeast, the very conservative South, the glitz of Los Angeles and the geeky environment of Silicon Valley.
In Europe, it’s easy to imagine men wearing it in all the European capitals from London to Paris to Antwerp.
And here’s the best part – the whole collection is wearable and definitely commercially viable.
