NEW YORK, Feb 12, 2005/ FW/ --- For his second show for his second-generation label, Wunderkind, literally translated as “Miracle Child,” Wolfgang Joop went all out, dressing her cool and sassy ladies from biblical times to Startrek inspired garments that can literally make your jaws drop.
The runway show, which literally did not have any beginning or ending, was a parade of what seems to be what a woman will have in her wardrobe – no rhyme or reason, except perhaps everything is beautiful and she looks good in all of them.
There’s the beautiful and colorful knee-length coat that is beaded, embroidered and embedded with crystals and semi-precious gems, reminding you of biblical Joseph and his coat of 7 colors.
And there is the black lace slip dress with 6 gores and black piping that can easily be a female Borg’s outfit, that is, if the collective ever allowed a Borg to dress up individually.
No matter what the inspiration was in this very eclectic collection, Wolfgang Joop proved that he is still a master of his craft and has kept his wonderful tailoring skills although he was absent from the catwalk for several years until last season when he debuted Wunderkind.
To be quite truthful, it would have been made more sense, and would have made the show much better if the show were divided into sections to pull together similarly inspired outfits.
But, to be fair also, it does not really matter, because though the message was a bit muddled, Wolfgang Joop still came through with very beautiful looks, though also very eclectic.
Standouts are the cool jackets, from knee-length or cut at the hip. Using fur, jacquard and embossed fabrics, Joop cornered this market for fall.
