DALLAS, May 9, 2006/ FW/ --- Known in the San Francisco Bay Area for his custom-made clothing, Joseph Domingo forays into ready-to-wear with his debut at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios on Monday, March 20th, 2006.
Born and raised in the Philippines, Joseph Domingo moved to San Francisco as a teenager where he studied Architecture and Interior design before engaging in his true passion – Fashion Design.
Opening his boutique in 1999 at the posh Union Square in San Francisco, his non-conventional wedding gowns, soigné evening dresses, sharp suits and party dresses helped to establish Domingo as one of San Francisco’s most sought after designers.
Drawing from his background in architecture, Domingo uses classical tailoring to create contemporary silhouettes geared towards cosmopolitans who love stylish clothing that are easy-to-wear yet modish and chic.
Although Domingo is exclusive to his own boutique for now, his vast client list has people flying from all over the country for a consultation for the perfect dress.
Expanding into ready-to-wear is a natural progression for Joseph Domingo. Though making made-to-measure clothing has proven to be very lucrative, cutting his teeth into the very competitive and challenging arena of pręt-a-porter has been one of his goals for several years.
And on March 20, 2006, when he previews ‘Safari Rose,’ his first-ever RTW collection at Smashbox Studios, it will be a culmination of years of research and hard work for this emerging designer.
“I try to expand my horizons every chance I get,” Domingo told FW in a phone interview. “Going into ready-to-wear is a path for growth.”
Domingo who regularly attends Premiere Vision and the Haute Couture and Pręt-a-porter seasons in Paris incorporates European aesthetics to his very American vision of fashion. Combining the best elements from both sides of the Atlantic, Domingo’s creations are unique and covetable because of their distinctive qualities.
His ‘Safari Rose’ collection, which will be unveiled during the Los Angeles season, is an expedition of animal prints and an array of rose colors. Featuring cashmere sweaters in leopard and zebra prints that are coordinated with velvet skirts and trousers, it is a new take on sportswear with an aura of luxury and opulence.
