Kevan Hall Fall 2006: Refined & Luxe
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios (Los Angeles Fashion Week) Fall 2006
By Heide Winkenwerder

Kevan Hall LOS ANGELES, Mar 19, 2006 / FW / - Kevan Hall’s inspiration for his Fall/Winter 2006 collection came by way of the iconic style of Ms. Diana Ross’ 1975 film ‘Mahogany’ proposing 46 looks that ranged from daywear to eveningwear.

With Kevan Hall’s breakthrough to the Hollywood scene since he first showed in LA in October 2004, he has now become one of the anchor designers for the Los Angeles fashion season and it looks like he will become the ‘opening act’ in a manner of speaking, making him the quintessential LA designer that reflects the fashion ethos of the city.

The very good and able designer also continues to show just how red carpet ready his collections are showing such classy, sexy, sophisticated and simply wonderful evening gowns and cocktail dresses not forgetting his ability with some very refined and luxe daywear.

Using granite and autumn tweeds, silk, lace, taffeta, double face wool, tulle, and chiffon in a very rich color palette of emerald, topaz, amethyst, ruby and onyx enhanced by using matte and polished gold accessories.

Kevan Hall used delicate draping, ruching, crystal-beaded inset as well as embroidery and all have been delicately placed in the right places.

Although the designer certainly showed the audience that he’s quite capable of the daywear division, his mastery is truly in eveningwear.

Making it quite difficult to choose a favorite among this very luscious collection, standouts include the “Mahogany” lizard sequin/crepe cut-out gown, alabaster draped front camisole over alabaster beaded skirt, the topaz charmeuse “Tracy” gown with tigers eye beaded straps and his alabaster beaded tulle cascade gown.

Kevan Hall has certainly made his muse and inspiration, Ms. Diana Ross in her role as Tracey in Mahogany proud, managing to dress her as a very modern woman full of self-confidence and an impeccable personal sense of style.

Thank you Kevan Hall for a wonderful show and this journalist can certainly say that the standing ovation bestowed by the audience is a much-deserved one. Hope to see you again next season!
