PARIS, Jul 30, 2004/ FW/ --- The Syrian artist Laila Muraywid presented an aesthetical and tastefully done collection during Paris’ recent haute couture season.
Showing at the Galliera Museum of Fashion in Paris, she successfully married together to the parallel worlds of haute couture and art. Her seven dresses featured low, back-plunging tops over skirts.
All the silhouettes were finished off with beautiful sculpture-like bracelets, colliers and earrings that bear her unmistakable touch. Her pieces are always organic and mysterious, yet wearable in every way.
Laila Muraywid feels that it is her vocation to help promote the arts and encourage international understanding through her work.
A total artist in every way, Ms. Muraywid works well with colours, natural materials, light and music. She weaves together armour from steel, copper and other elements. Her silks precious stones, resin, etc. give homage to a woman’s natural sense of femininity.
Her sculptural jewellery has also been showcased in expositions at the Institut du Monde Arabe and the Galliera Museum.
Before presenting this - her own - couture collection, she had previously responded to the call of numerous references in this exclusive world of haute couture including Jean-Louis Scherrer, Christian Lacroix and Torrente for their own collections, each time marrying her style to their elegance.
