LOS ANGELES, Sept 25, 2005 / FW / - Inspired by a photograph taken by William Klein around 1960 of two models on the Piazza di Spagna in Rome, Lela Rose paraded her collection showing 36 exits in all of very wearable pieces last week in New York.
Using color patterns of navy, white and black, as well as peacock, persimmon and celery in contrasting fabrics of seersucker, chiffon, burlap, linen, and silk charmeuse to name a few.
Lela Rose cleverly incorporated pearls, sequins, and embroidery as well as lace that have been bleached and jet printed onto linen that gave the fabric the illusion of that lady-like soft look of lace which from a distance did not seem like a print.
The designer even used quilting, cord and bead details adding glitz and glamour to the very American fabrics used and mentioned above.
The designs were shown in loose fitting knee length dresses even using an oversized bow acting as a belt cinching the waistline, tomboy shorts, flowing chiffon blouses and gowns as well as jackets and coats.
Standouts included the black/ivory woven grosgrain tennis dress, the bright navy and ivory antique lace gown, the black/white polka dot chiffon blouse, over black grosgrain ribbon long skirt and the silver burlap gown with white airbrushed lace and crystals.
Lela Rose dominated the runway with her very feminine 50’s and 60’s look with a very today look.
