DALLAS, Sep 7, 2005/ FW/ --- Bollywood might be the one making headlines in the entertainment news, but Naeem Khan, who hails originally from India is the one taking the fashion world by storm.
Khan, who was born in 1958 in India, cultivated his knowledge of textiles growing-up on the watchful eyes of his grandfather and father.
With over three generations of designing the intricate clothing worn by royal families and other wealthy notables before him, Khan’s DNA brought him to the fashion patch without hesitation.
Taking that knowledge he learned from his family with him in 1976 here in the U.S., he worked at Halston for 3 years. In 1981, he launched his first label, “Riazee,” known for its casual separates and cocktail dresses.
Expanding his horizons in 2003, he launched his eponymous label, “Naeem Khan,” which is becoming the byword for impeccably tailored cocktail suits, sophisticated dresses and cashmere separates.
Sold at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus as well at 40 specialty stores across the country, the label made its debut under the tents at Bryant Park during the New York Fall 2005 season.
And in that collection, everything that shines, glistens and floats turned to gold at the hands of Khan as he created pure eveningwear in a color palette of delicious espresso, black and gold.
Yet, it was just the beginning. When he launched his Resort 2005 collection (now available in stores), ‘dressing casual’ took an elegant meaning as Khan put his luxe touch.
With his precision tailoring, he worked in beads on the necklines, sometimes all over as exemplified with the “wooden dress.” (See photo above). With details at front and back, a cute bolero here and there, plus masterful cutting and draping, Khan’s Resort 2005 collection should have been launched on the runway rather than a look book.
But don’t worry. Naeem Khan’s fans and devotees that includes Ahn Duong, Tinsley Mortimer, Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Somers White and Princess Aga Khan, will be treated once again by the New York-based designer with a catwalk presentation during Olympus Fashion Week when he presents his Spring 2006 collection.
And that show is a “must-see” and “must attend” among the fashion set!
