DALLAS, Mar 17, 2004/ FW/ --- San Francisco-native Peter Som is nicely coming into his own with his classic sportswear with a twist making him a favorite among the fashionistas looking for an alternative look, but do not want to go overboard.
Form and function is Peter Som’s calling card, wherein a dress has to be beautiful and it still has to do what it was created for. So for Fall 2004, the young designer opted for nice snug jackets to ward off the winter cold.
And for the twist, a brooch worn on the collar or on the belt, the only accessory he wanted the Peter Som woman to use. After all, the clothes are beautiful enough and do not really need more embellishments.
Day dresses are just below the knee, while pants are wide-legged and comfortable. The silhouette is dainty, almost innocent at times. And in this decade dominated by blatant sexuality, Peter Som’s touch of innocence is a like a breath of fresh air.
He also dabbled in eveningwear, with his floor length gowns and just above the knee cocktail dresses.
The silver dusted pink spaghetti-strap gown is perfect for a young debutante while the black cocktail dress with tiny ruffles is the one for get for a more sophisticated look.
Peter Som is still ‘a name to watch’ among the young crop of designers in New York, but this time, his name is in lights because his mastery of tailoring techniques is getting better and better every season.
