NEW YORK, Feb 12, 2005/ FW/ --- Inspired by Angelica Huston and her timeless appeal, Peter Som converged contemporary silhouettes with romantic looks and came up with a collection that is as enduring in appeal as his muse.
Pulling elements from the late Victorian age such as the ruffled cravats and riding habits, the San Francisco-native mixed it with his signature form & function style, creating garments with modern day ease with the innocence of the late 1800 and early 1900s.
Luxe fabrics such as cashmere, velvet and chiffon were used throughout the collection, with furs sometimes used as trimmings on lapels.
The Peter Som lady is feminine and demure with a dash of insouciance as she walks in her black silk ottoman faille evening coat over her white silk ottoman faille skirt.
She is also a picture of a contemporary woman when she changes into her olive velvet knickers won with a champagne charmeuse top with Swarovski topaz border.
Peter Som continues to grow as a designer. Since 1997, when CFDA recognized him as a young man with talent by awarding him a scholarship, Peter Som does not only show maturity each passing season, but also demonstrate his increasing ability on the mastery of his craft.
His Fall 2005 collection, six years hence since he was named a Designer to Watch by Vogue when he showed his Fall 1999 collection has made him a “must see” designer during the New York season.
