DALLAS, Apr 21, 2007 / FW --- Peter Som loves dressing up women and it shows in his creations especially with his Fall 2007 collection which is exemplary of his signature style that combines form and function resulting to easy-to-wear clothing that becomes classics the moment they hit the runway.
Continuing the direction he took for his Spring 2007 collection (now available in stores) where the ‘girl’ took center stage, this time she is a little bit more grown up just like the song, ‘this girl is a woman now.’
Like most designers who has a following, Som, who launched his eponymous label during the Fall 1999 New York season, is ‘growing up with his clientele.’ His maturity as a designer showed in this collection with the sure hand he exercised for both daywear and eveningwear.
Structured shapes with a touch of romance courtesy of the strategic use of ruffles on the neckline, the New York-based designer opted for earth tones as his basic color palette employing them as solids or mixing them in graphical prints.
Demure in her just about the knee dresses and skirts, the Peter Som girl loves to dress up in cigarette pants and short cropped snug fitting jackets. Separates consists of pencil skirts with side pockets and long-sleeved blouses with ruffles in front or on the neck.
To keep warm, she has a choice between a single-breasted coat with raglan sleeves, or oversized V-neck pullovers.
Dress suits are classics, with a touch of the 1960s, reminiscent of Courreges but reworked for a more contemporary look like double pockets and collars with wide lapels. She can choose between thin or obi-wide belts, sometimes the belts are as thin as ribbons and go around twice the waist.
The Peter Som girl might no longer be a college coed anymore, but her favorite designer made sure that she has something to wear when she applies for a job this September.
