MILAN, Feb 21, 2006/ FW/ --- It’s a MOD, MOD world at Pollini as Rifat Ozbek chose to retrofit and restyle one of the most recognizable iconic fashion of the 20th century making it more stylized and tailored.
Lily Cole opened the show with a ‘matched set’ – coat, mini dress, boots and handbag, all in Pollini original graphical prints done in different shades of brown.
And, if that is not enough to convince you of the mod influence, the second exit will, a mini jumper dress worn with a long-sleeved turtleneck with big round sunglasses and an oversized chrome crescent moon as the only accessory, plus the tote bag of course.
Though it is still too early in the Milan season to see any trends coming up, one thing is sure, good tailoring always prevails as Ozbek’s masterful cutting techniques gave the relatively heavy weight fabrics a swing.
The silhouette is slim, very much like Twiggy, the most recognizable icon of the mod era.
And if Twiggy would still do runways (which is highly unlikely because she is currently busy being a television personality and a judge at ‘America’s Next Top Model), she would actually fit right in the pencil thin pants, knee-length outer coat with ruched standing collars, wrapped mini skirts and animal prints dress coats with fur peeking out of the collar.
Ozbek’s most recognizable emblem for this mod-era inspired collection – the stylized flower encircled in a Byzantine symbol, always done with a black background. It was seen in shoes, handbags and of course, the clothes!
