NEW YORK, Feb 6, 2006/ FW/ --- Rachel Comey pushed the envelope for men’s fashion with a few expressionistic details for the dame as well.
Comey’s color palate was conceived directly from an upstate farmhouse in late fall. She gave us hunter greens, heather grays and browns in large oversized fabrics such as chambrays, wools and cable knits.
Corduroy pants and houndstooth jackets styled over rucksack canvas shorts mixed with alpaca sweaters were featured layering dos.
Cardigans and short peacoats were some of the more favored items in nice knits as well as the turquoise and white print spark shorts and tomboy pants. Non-traditional fabrics were used for the large carpetbags that were seen in heavy wools at the top with a lighter canvas bottom.
Many of the silhouettes could be and were seen on female as well as male models creating a post 90’s androgynous affect. Lace leggings and cable knit fitted long johns in black and pale pink respectively were worn on male models.
While female models also sported a boxy top shape with shoulder pads and square shoulder cuts. Oversized sweaters gave more of an 80’s feel to the collection along with the over use of tights and ankle leggings.
With an infusion of styles and creativity, Comey gave us a bit of her history as well as stated where she believes fashion is headed.
