DALLAS, Sep 5, 2005/ FW/ --- Michael Carbaugh designing under the label ‘Sandoval’ might be a new name on the roster, but he is definitely creating a buzz before fashion week starts.
With editorials from Women’s Wear Daily, Marie Claire, Nylon and W, this New Mexico native creates very structured silhouettes with simple clean lines that draw attention to the wearer, instead of the clothes.
In short, Michael Carbaugh makes the woman the “main attraction,” the clothes complimenting her beauty and figure.
And that brings us to his point of view for designing clothes, wherein “fashion is capturing a woman’s silhouette through a study of form.”
“With an understanding of the fabric, each garment is skillfully draped, its shape defined by the material, never forced. In some instances, hand painting is used for embellishment, adding a depth by hinting at the many layers unrevealed,” is how Michael Carbaugh describes how every piece in his collection is created.
This perceptive recognition of the material also helps him deal with the seasonal requirements of fashion.
“Innately when the seasons change, one's wardrobe reflects the shift to a more minimal wardrobe. This translates into more skin and lighter fabrics,” commented Carbaugh.
“The modern woman however will still maintain the silhouette that best fits her own body. It is important when creating a Spring/Summer collection to recognize that she is the same woman of Fall. She just wants to be cooler and feel a bit sexier,” he added.
With a very thoughtful understanding of the way women dress today, it is really no wonder why he was chosen as one of the 10 awardees by the judges for ‘UPS Delivers Fashion’s Future.’
He was working in his studio when he received the phone call. Extremely overjoyed when he heard the news, all he could think of was that he just received a “golden ticket” in making his dreams come true.
“Then, the onset of reality hit and I realized that I had a great deal of work ahead of me. It extended beyond just creating my collection but also now producing my first official show. Wow!” Michael Carbaugh related.
Yet, this is not the first time that this young designer has worked with UPS. He has been working with ‘Brown’ for sometime already.
“From fabrics to acquired inspirations from around the world, much of my design time is spent waiting for the materials needed to get started and to keep going. Being directly supported by the company responsible for the delivery of these much needed to materials to my studio is like being connected to a lifeline,” is how Michael Carbaugh puts his relationship with UPS.
And a lifeline it is… As Michael Carbaugh’s Sandoval label makes its runway debut under the tents of Bryant Park courtesy of ‘UPS Delivers Fashion’s Future.’
