PARIS, Jan 29, 2006/ FW/ --- With a provocative title ‘Used Future’ Wendy & Jim’s Fall 2006 menswear collection were full of both men and women’s silhouette that at times it was hard to decide whether this was the menswear season or pręt-a-porter for women.
Their short & sweet press notes explained it though. It said, ‘Every collection shows Used Future every season. Garments are shown in order to make the future in lifestyle and fashion visible. Prototypes from other decades are usually redesigned, arranged and rearranged.’
And, ‘arranged and rearranged’ was what Wendy & Jim did, a juxtaposition of what is conventional to make them unconventional.
Example, during womenswear season, we usually hear or say, ‘the woman borrowing from her brother’s or her boyfriend’s wardrobe.’
Wendy & Jim, did the exact opposite, ‘the man borrowing from his sister’s or his girlfriend’s wardrobe.
Hence, we saw an A-line leather dress worn by a male model under a trench coat. A cowl neckline blouse covered with a bomber jacket and hip-hugging mini-skirt worn over tie-dyed jeans.
If these silhouettes are a trifle too much for the more conservative, don’t worry, Wendy & Jim concocted beautiful knitted sweaters in color block and graphical prints that even the traditionalists would love.
