MILAN, Jul 2, 2014/ — As a designer, Roberto Cavalli has the gift of reinventing himself several times over, making his collections fresh and new season after season. And for Pre-Spring 2015, he did exactly that.
But this time around, he did not just re-invent himself; he re-imagined his own creations from the 1970s, a time when his passion for travel led him to discover the profound beauty of nature and the animal kingdom.
Of course, Roberto Cavalli did not know that his adventures will be the basis of his iconoclastic design. What he knew and saw that time was that in Florence, Veruschka was emerging as a new, slightly subversive, female icon.
It might have been almost 40 years ago, but Roberto Cavalli still remember the woman that Veruschka represented: modern, courageous, and with a touch of romance. Thus, today, she becomes the ‘adventurer muse’ of this Roberto Cavalli Spring/Summer 2015 Pre-collection.
Creatures emerge from the deepest seas and the most exotic safari locations and give life to clothes and accessories. The subtle mutations in the DNA of the Maison give space to the wild romance of the deep and clothe the fearless women who inspired them.
Silver and gold eyelets run through the collection, giving the clothes a new touch of light. Drawstrings and lace-up define the waist and neckline, with metal eyelet and sailing inspired lace-hole detail that closes and decorates the sartorial pleating and plisse’.
A new animal print inspired by the geometric armour of the armadillo and the tortoise creates a graphic game of blacks and whites. Column silhouettes, dressing-gown jackets with straight and light shoulders are renewed through wide, arrow-shaped lapels and soft lines.
Palazzo pants are proposed with a new, slimmer proportions and side slits. Large pockets for shirts, jackets, and chemisier dresses. Skirts are pencil-narrow or very wide paired with small close-fitting bodices.
The colour palette is inspired by the sea the world of safari. Saturated and vivid: cobalt, geranium, yellow and hunter green contrasted with black and white create an effect of optical depth.
