HOUSTON, May 30, 2001/ FW/ --- Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland, of Destiny's Child, along with their Manager,
Mathew Knowles, recently donated $500,000 to St. John's Downtown Church.
The money will be used to help build a multi-purpose recreational facility for Houston's youth, which
should be open in about 10 months.
Pastor Rudy Rasmus, of St. John's, will be naming the youth center after the contributors. He has tossed
around the idea of calling the facility The Knowles-Rowland Center For Youth.
St. John's is a Methodist church, located in the heart of Houston. They are most recognized for their
boundless acts of community service, most notably, The Bread of Life Homeless Project, which feeds many of
Houston's homeless souls daily.
Pastor Rasmus was, of course, thrilled by the generous donation and had this to say about the Knowles
family: "The Knowles family, including Kelly, have always been a wonderful committed part of the St. John's
Downtown community."
Mathew Knowles is the founder and CEO of the Houston-based artist management company Music World Entertainment,
which of course is home to ten-times platinum Columbia recording artists Destiny's Child.
